NEW POLL: Harry Dunn Leads in Maryland’s Crowded 3rd District 

Dunn is best-known, best liked and leads numerous state legislators in race for Congress

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — Today, Harry Dunn for Congress released a new poll showing the former US Capitol Police Officer, who defended our democracy with his bare hands from insurrectionists on January 6th, with a lead over the rest of the crowded field in Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District.

This recent survey was conducted by Upswing Research & Strategy from April 7-10 among 400 likely voters in the Democratic primary in Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District.

Harry Dunn is gaining steam across the electorate; he currently has a lead, leads after balanced information, is better known and is better liked than any of his opponents. 

• Dunn currently leads, within the margin of error, the crowded field to succeed Congressman John Sarbanes in Maryland’s 3rd District. Dunn starts off at 22%, with State Senator Sarah Elfreth at 18%, State Senator Clarence Lam at 8% and 44% of the electorate undecided. 

• Despite several other candidates holding state legislative office, Dunn also has the highest name ID (50 percent ID) and strongest favorability ratings (34 percent – 4 percent) in the field. State Senator Sarah Elfreth is the next best known at 42 percent name ID and 30 percent – 4 percent favorability.

• After hearing balanced positive information about Harry Dunn, Sarah Elfreth, Clarence Lam, and John Morse, Dunn and Elfreth make similar gains with Dunn maintaining his margins and growing to 32 percent vote share compared to Elfreth’s 28 percent. After these introductions, Dunn even leads Elfreth in her home base of Anne Arundel County.

“Our polling confirms what our grassroots momentum has told us for months: Harry Dunn is leading the field to replace Congressman John Sarbanes in Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District.

“Voters from every part of our district are responding to Harry’s message and his story. They know that he’s uniquely qualified to stand up to MAGA extremists. They also know that he’s the only candidate in this race who has not only earned the support of more than 100,000 people across the country, but has totally rejected Corporate PAC money.”

Last week, Dunn announced raising more than 3.75m in the first quarter of 2024 from more than 100,000 donors. Previously, Harry Dunn released his Plan to Protect the People’s Democracy – a detailed roadmap to fight corruption in our government and put power back in the hands of everyday Americans. Just 3 days later, a Super PAC that is funded by and endorses election deniers poured hundreds of thousands of MAGA dollars into Harry’s race. This campaign is about grassroots enthusiasm standing up against Super-PAC influence.
